The historic town of Clunes is set in the heart of Victoria's Central
Goldfields region, 30mins from Ballarat and 90mins from Melbourne.
Clunes is one of the most intact gold towns in Australia,
steeped in heritage with stunning colonial streetscapes, rustic
buildings and great gold prospecting. There's always plenty to do with a
variety of vineyards and wineries, specialty shops, sumptuous eateries
and a strong book culture. Every year the town hosts the 'Back to
Booktown' festival attracting booktraders, authors and book lovers from
all across Australia.
The Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, formerly known as the Exchange Hotel, was
established Circa 1853 and now operates as a successful B&B with a great
local reputation. The single storey building features a brick design and
boasts many period features dating back to the 1850's including a
large cellar, a unique ladies snug and original Baltic Pine wall
paneling and flooring.
Extensive renovations have been carried out including the addition of
new living/dining rooms and bedroom ensuites. A largely perennial and
rose garden is framed by the original brick walls. The property
began operating as a B&B in 1999 and has become an integral part of
tourism and community life in Clunes.
